Apple Pay became available to customers of PrivatBank

Kyiv, Ukraine, May 17, 2018 Today, holders of cards issued by PrivatBank got the opportunity to use Apple Pay, an easy, secure payment tool that will completely change the sphere of mobile payments in Ukraine, offering speed and convenience of payments.

"This is the long-awaited and pleasant news for all our customers in Ukraine, who can now pay for any purchases in the retail chain and online without cash and bank cards,” Peter Krumhansl said, Chairman of the Board of PrivatBank. "More than 130 thousand trading terminals of PrivatBank, a network for accepting non-cash payments from other Ukrainian banks, contactless payment in metro and city transport give our clients a unique advantage when using Apple Pay in everyday life.”

Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When you add a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the card number itself is not stored on either the device or Apple servers. Instead, a unique account number of the device is assigned, which is encrypted and safely stored in the chip "Safe Element" of your device. Each transaction is authorized with a unique one-time secret code, which is generated dynamically.

"Apple Pay is perhaps one of the most anticipated payment innovations in Ukraine. With Apple Pay, we offer Ukrainian Visa card holders and merchants a new consumer experience: quickly and conveniently pay using a mobile form factor, while enjoying all the benefits of payments on Visa cards, including special offers and privileges, and high standards of security. Today, when three-quarters of POS-terminals in the country accept contactless payments, we expect that Ukrainians will easily accept Apple Pay. This will accelerate the digitalization of the Ukrainian economy,” - Dmitry Krepak said, Acting Head of the CIS Region and South-Eastern Europe Visa.

"We are pleased to welcome the launch of a new global payment service in the market, which opens up even more opportunities for non-cash payments. In the world, payment with a smartphone is very popular, and the Ukrainian trend is even more dynamic. Over the past year, the number of tokenized Mastercard transactions in Ukraine has grown 14 times, with Ukrainians most often paying with smartphone in grocery stores and transport, in cafés, restaurants and gas stations. This became possible thanks to the wide infrastructure of contactless payments, which we are developing with partners. With the launch of Apple Pay, even more Ukrainians will be able to pay with a smartphone, which will become an additional driver for the development of non-cash payments in Ukraine,” Vera Platonova said, CEO of Mastercard in Ukraine.

"The arrival of the leading global technology of mobile payments to the Ukrainian market is becoming a decisive incentive for large and small businesses to actively switch to cashless technologies," said Alexei Shaban, head of PrivatBank's Retail Business. "Already for the first month of Apple Pay work in Ukraine, we expect a significant increase in the share of mobile payments from our customers, and special loyalty programs for users of mobile devices Apple will make Apple Pay the trend of the year in Ukraine.”

Apple Pay is very easy to configure: you can add a PrivatBank Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card through the Privat24 or Wallet application. In stores, you can pay with Apple Pay with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, and with Apple Watch.
