Frequently asked questions on the grace period

What is the grace period?

Universal Card of PrivatBank has a grace period of use, during which you can use credit funds for free. This means that if you pay off the debt during the grace period, you will not have to pay interest on this loan!

What is the grace period of Universal Cards?

Universal Cards have a grace period for using the credit of up to 55 days It means that in order not to pay interests you have to pay back your debt before the 25th day of the month following the month when you used the credit.

How does the grace period of "55 days" work?

In order to take advantage of the grace period, you must deposit the amount of the debt of the past month on any day before the 25th day of the current month. The grace period is not applied if your card has outstanding debts of previous periods. In this case, the grace period will not be applied to new expenditures!

Example: You did not use your card earlier. On March 2, you made a purchase in the store with your Universal Card for UAH 500, and on March 28 you made a purchase for another UAH 500. By April 25 you had paid back UAH 1000 to your card and did not pay for the use of credit funds.

How do I save on purchases with my Universal Card?

Payment by Universal Card in stores is carried out without any fees. In stores that are the partners of Bonus Plus program you make purchases without any fees and earn some good bonuses. For cash withdrawal at an ATM you pay a fee, the size of which depends on the amount of withdrawal. The fee will be added to your debt.

Example: You have no debts on your card. On March 5, you made a purchase from credit funds for the amount of UAH 300, and on March 28 you withdrew another UAH 450 from the card. The fee for withdrawal of credit funds at ATMs and cash desks of any Ukrainian or foreign bank in the amount from UAH 400.01 to UAH 500 is UAH 30. On April 5 you had to withdraw another UAH 1,500 from your card. The fee for withdrawal of credit funds at ATMs and cash desks of any Ukrainian or foreign bank in the amount more than UAH 1,000 is 4% of the withdrawn amount, that is UAH 60. After paying out the amount of expenses in March (300 + 450 + 30 = 780 UAH) by April 25, you cannot worry about those UAH 1,560 taken at the beginning of the month - interest on them will not be charged if you pay 1 560 UAH to 25 May!

Frequently Asked Questions about accrual of interest

In what case do I have to pay loan interest on Universal Card?

If you do not pay back the full amount of the debt of previous month by the 25th day of the current month, the grace period is not applied, and interest is accrued on the entire amount your debt from the date of beginning of the use of credit funds. The grace period will not be applied to any new expenditures until the full repayment of all debts.

Example: You made purchases in the store with your Universal Card on January 3 for the amount of UAH 1,000 and on February 5 for the amount of UAH 500. On February 20, you replenished your card only for UAH 100. What is the interest accrued on the debt on my Universal Card?

The interest rate for the use of credit funds beyond the grace period is very advantageous; it is only 3.6% per month.

What is the formula for calculation of interest on Universal Card?

The interest on a card is calculated for each calendar day of using the credit funds according to the formula:

debt amount * days of using the funds * 3.6% * 12 / 365

where:
• 365 is a constant value (the number of days in a year);
•3.6% is a constant value (the monthly interest rate according to the schedule of rates);
• 12 is a constant value (the number of months in a year).

The calculation is made separately for each client's transaction, resulting in a change of the debt amount. The debiting of interest is carried out on the 1st day of the month following the month when the grace period expires. When calculating interest, the digits to the right of the hundredths place shall be dropped.

Example: As of January 1, you had no debt on your Universal Card. You made purchases in the store with your Universal Card on January 3 for the amount of UAH 1,000 and on February 5 for the amount of UAH 500. On February 20, you replenished your card only for UAH 100.

Debt amount, UAH Number of days Accrued interest amount, UAH
UAH 1,000 (purchase on January 3) From Jan. 03 to Feb. 04 inclusive = 33 days 1,000 * 33 * 3.6 * 12 / 365 / 100 = 39.06 UAH
UAH 1,500 (amount of purchases on January 3 and February 5) From Feb. 05 to Feb. 20 inclusive = 16 days 1,500 * 16 * 3.6 * 12 / 365 / 100 = 28.41 UAH
UAH 1,400 (debt after repayment on February 20) From Feb. 21 to Feb. 28 inclusive = 8 days 1,400 * 8 * 3.6 * 12 / 365 / 100 = 13.26 UAH

The total amount of accrued interest as of Feb. 28: UAH 80.43 = 39.06 + 28.41 + 13.26
